In India, we believe it when they say that a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. For instance, let’s take our Prime Minister Modi’s favourite food. Mr Modi loves himself some Gujarati cuisines and at the end of the day, Gujarat is where his heart lies. Here are some of the favourite dishes of our Prime Minister that are in sync with his  ” Mann Ki Baat”

The Prime Minister cherishes and sticks to a simple meal at all times. His favourite dish will humble you down in comparison. Vaghareli Khichdi is a variant of Gujarati khichdi, that soothes the palate of PM Modi. It’s a basic khichdi made out of rice and lentil and is really tasty. It’s believed to be a comfort food for all of Gujarat and not just our Prime Minister. This kichdi can be turned into masala khichdi if it is spiced up with few spices and the choice of vegetables. He loves khichdi so much that he even put it on the menu of his birthday party!

2. White Khatta Dhokla

Come festivities, white khatta dhokla will start doing rounds in a Gujarati neighbourhood. While your regular Dhoklas are a little sweet and succulent, this white khatta dhokla is a yummier anomaly to the original dish. It’s a preparation of rice and urad and is usually served with ‘hari’ chutney.  It is light, spongy, bit sour. The best way to serve it is after a tadka of mustard and cumin seeds, lightly spiced with sesame seeds, green chillies and ginger.

3. Khandvi

Khandvi happens to be the spiciest and the trickiest of soft savoury snacks in Gujarati cuisine. It’s basically a tight little bite-sized roll of besan and yogurt. The combination of these two ingredients is highly enhanced if tempered with cumin seeds, hing, sesame seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves and chillies. While our Prime Minister loves this dish, we ought to point out that it’s not an easy dish to perfect. Regardless, it melts in your mouth and is a treat for your plalate!

4. Sweet Mango Achaar

The Prime Minister also has a taste for the Gujarati mango pickle, aka aam ka chundaIt’s a Gujarati sweet mango preparation of pickle, made from sun-dried mangoes and sugar. The recipe includes a range of spices from garlic and cloves to peppercorn. The chunda is best served with Gujarati snacks made out of besan like thepla, fafda and khari puri etc.

These dishes not only highlight Prime Minister Modi culinary preferences but also reflect the rich and diverse flavors of Gujarati cuisine.
